The Joseph Pride-trained mare Sacred Choice secured a narrow win at Randwick on Saturday in the $150,000 Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1600m).
Star hoop Michael Rodd held four-year-old Sacred Choice ($11) back off the speedy tempo until the straight, when she put in a commanding chase and pushed past the favourite Gold Water ($2.50) to win by a mere half-head.
It was a photo-finish for all the top three, with third placegetter, the John O’Shea-trained Strawberry Field ($8.50) also just a short half-head back.
Sacred Choice and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Gold Water are half sisters, both from boom sire Choisir.
Heading now for a spell, Sacred Choice has saluted in seven of her 20 starts for over $305,000 in stakes.
