Thirteen fillies and mares have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse; highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.
Solicit savaged the line for third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) a fortnight ago and should relish a step back in class in Saturday’s 2016 Emancipation Stakes.
Transferred to the care of Gerald Ryan prior to her 2015 campaign in search of a maiden Group 1 win, Solicit ran second in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) upon resuming in spring, and while failing to match the late pace when eighth in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m), returned to the paddock after winning the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m).
Resuming this time for second in each of the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), Solicit returned to winning form in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) in her only other start prior to the Coolmore Classic.
Badawiya stormed home for an impressive first-up win this time and could very well receive the run of the race in the Emancipation Stakes from the ideal barrier 4.
Stamping herself as a filly to follow through spring, Badawiya ran seventh in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) before taking out the talent-rich Australian Seed & Turf BM64 (1400m) on September 23rd.
Producing a huge late turn of foot to take out the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on October 4th, the Al Maher filly ran on for third in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 10th.
Beating a classy field to the line by close to three lengths in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) on March 12th, Badawiya will be partnered by regular hoop Craig Newitt and should have no issue carrying 56kgs in the Emancipation Stakes.
Amicus has been charged with carrying a race-high 58kgs in the Emancipation Stakes but is positioned well in barrier 6, particularly with leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle.
A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the Thousand Guineas, Amicus returned this time for success in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) on February 6th but has failed to make anything of an impact in her two most recent starts.
Pasadena Girl is also a Group 1 winner having capped a strong autumn preparation with success in the Champagne Stakes (1600m) in 2015.
Resuming this time for third in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) on February 27th, the daughter of Savabeel reared at the start of the Kenwey Stakes a fortnight ago and took now part in the race.
